Andersen Community, It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Andersen Elementary. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education! My most recent administrative experience was at Woodland Elementary, where I served as principal. I am excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to Andersen and work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child's success. Along with the teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue Andersen’s legacy by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners. We will focus on character education and empowering teachers and students so that we can continue to increase all of the students' achievement. I have been spending time getting to know the school's community and familiarizing myself with Andersen. In doing so, I've learned that Andersen is a place where strong connections are made between home and school, and staff members are committed to developing the whole child. As the parent of two children, I fully understand the challenges and rewards you face every day to ensure your child has the best educational experience. My passion has been, and always will be educating students. With that in mind, you can expect that I will work diligently with teachers to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum and instruction that is engaging and challenging. My door is always open, and I welcome your input. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year. Sincerely, Tiffany Lewis tlewis@nmusd.us Newport-Mesa Unified School District Announced Classified School Employees of the Year Congratulations to Mrs. Kitto - NMUSD's Employee of the Year in the category of Office and Technical Meet Orange County’s Classified School Employees of the Year for 2020 Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) announces 2019 Classified School Employees of the Year, Mr. Frank Gamboa for the category of Support Services and Security and Cathy Kitto, for the category of Office and Technical. Cathy Kitto also was selected as the Orange County Classified School Employee of the Year and was submitted for consideration in the California School Employee of the Year Award Program. The Classified School Employee of the Year award program recognizes employees that go above and beyond the expectations of their job duties to provide exemplary service to students, families, and colleagues. Cathy Kitto Selected as employee of the year in the category of Office and Technical, Cathy Kitto has been with our district for nearly 30 years. As the school administrative assistant for Andersen Elementary , Kitto also was selected as the Orange County Classified Employee of the Year for her category. Her nomination was submitted for consideration at the state level. Kitto takes great pride as the school’s first impression, she is a happy and positive representative of the school when assisting students, parents, colleagues and the general public. Kitto is remarkable at connecting with kids and prioritizes becoming a part of each student’s story. In addition to her focus on the students and families, Cathy also does a wonderful job of supporting the school principal. She knows the Andersen school community well and is able to connect with them to provide helpful resources and guidance, without the principal having to get involved. Another example of Kitto’s commitment to the school community is that she attends nearly all school events and volunteers at both Andersen Elementary and the feeder middle and high schools for PTA fundraisers and foundation events. Hand in hand with her exceptional work ethic and dedication to the school community is her initiative to tackle leadership roles, without being asked. “Cathy is the perfect example of the type of people we have in our schools, who are truly dedicated to creating a safe, efficient, positive school culture for everyone,” said Superintendent Dr. Fred Navarro. The Great Kindness Challenge About Us Andersen School is located at 1900 Port Seabourne Way within the city of Newport Beach. The school serves approximately 360 students in grades transitional kindergarten through sixth. Our community consists of single-family homes. The school opened in 1973 and is named after a former school superintendent, Roy O. Andersen. Andersen Elementary was designated a California Distinguished School for the years 1987, 2002, 2008 and 2014. The success of our students is due to the strong partnership that exists in our community. The school staff works closely with parents to promote learning, personal growth, and high self-esteem.
